Translation
Treats wind-cold contracted in any of the four seasons. Atractylodes lancea, 4 don; schizonepeta, 2 don; licorice, 1 don. Cut up, make one packet and decoct in water. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)
Clinical commentary 臨床
Three drugs in a four-two-one descent, which is as simple as a surface-releasing formula gets. Atractylodes lancea at four don dries damp and opens the pores; schizonepeta is the gentlest of the wind drugs, warm enough to release and mild enough not to exhaust; licorice harmonizes. The claim to work in all four seasons rests on there being nothing hot in it — no ephedra, no cinnamon — so it neither adds to a summer heat nor fails against a winter cold. This is the formula to reach for when the diagnosis is no more precise than a cold. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
