Translation

Treats vexation of the heart, abdominal fullness and restlessness whether lying down or rising, after purging in cold damage. Gardenia, 1 don 5 fun; magnolia bark, 3 don; bitter orange, 2 don. Cut up, make one packet and decoct in water. — Junggyeong 仲景 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three drugs for a precisely drawn complaint: after a purge, the patient is vexed in the chest and full in the belly and cannot settle whether he lies down or gets up. Gardenia takes the residual heat out of the chest and magnolia bark with bitter orange moves the fullness downward, and the restlessness is the hinge between them — heat above and stagnation below in the same patient. Compared with Chijasi-tang, which treats the vexation alone, the difference is the belly, and the two formulas differ accordingly. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
