Translation

Treats jaundice with a liking for eating tea leaves. Atractylodes lancea and white atractylodes 3 nyang each; gypsum, white peony, scutellaria, arisaema and tangerine peel 1 nyang each; mint 7 don. Powder them, boil medicated leaven in sugar water to make a paste, and form pills the size of a firmiana seed. Take fifty to seventy on an empty stomach with sugar water. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Hwangdal)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Unlike the Four Treasures Elixir, this does not include the craved substance. It treats the spleen instead — two atractylodes at three nyang each — with gypsum and mint for the heat that drives a craving for something cold and bitter. Sugar water is used both as the binder and as the vehicle, which is the one sweet element in a chapter otherwise full of bitters. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
