Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治卒中風, 口眼喎斜. 南星(大者) 一箇, 草烏(大者) 一箇, 白芨二錢, 白殭蚕七箇. 右爲末, 生鱔魚血調成膏, 付喎處, 覺正便洗去. 《得效》

Translation

Treats sudden wind stroke with deviation of the mouth and eye. One large arisaema root, one large aconite kusnezoffii root, white bletilla, 2 don, and seven silkworms. Powder and mix with fresh swamp eel blood into a paste; apply to the deviated place, and as soon as it is felt to straighten, wash it off. — Uibang Yuchwi 得效 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A poultice of two of the most irritant drugs in the materia medica — arisaema and aconite kusnezoffii, both whole roots — bound with bletilla for adhesion and mixed with eel blood, smeared on the face. The stop instruction is what makes the entry worth reading: wash it off as soon as the face straightens. Whoever wrote that had seen the paste burn, and set a limit accordingly. Aconite alkaloids are absorbed through skin and the face is thin-skinned and close to the eye; this must not be prepared or applied. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
