The Bogam carries two formulas called 淸心丸; this is the 癰疽門 one, and the 火門 formula built on 黃栢 and the two 冬 is registered as cheongsim-hwan. The transcription prints 右為末 for 右爲末, normalized here. The honey binder and the rice-water vehicle are not entered as ingredients.

Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

諸痛痒瘡瘍皆屬心火, 此藥主之. 黃連一兩, 茯神ㆍ赤茯苓各五錢. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大, 米飮下百丸. 《入門》

Translation

All pain, itching, sores and ulcerations belong to Heart fire, and this drug governs them. Coptis, 1 nyang; poria with hostwood and red poria, 5 don each. Powder them, make honey pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take a hundred pills down with rice water. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Ongjeo)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three drugs, and the whole argument is in the opening line, which is the Suwen's: 諸痛痒瘡瘍皆屬心火, all pain, itching, sores and ulcerations belong to Heart fire. Coptis at a nyang drains that fire directly; poria with hostwood and red poria are twinned behind it, one to settle the spirit and one to lead the heat down and out by the urine. It is the first of the four formulas the Immun gives for 心癰, and the plainest. The Bogam's 心癰 — a swelling at 巨闕 like a honeycomb, said to be fatal in a week if it sinks into the abdomen — has no modern counterpart that can honestly be named, and nothing here requires one: the formula is being used for hot, painful, suppurating lesions generally. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
