Translation

Treats wine and sensual excess damaging the Lung until, grown chronic, the Yin-vacuous fire stirs: sores arising in the throat, voice lost, phlegm cough, hurried panting, vexing heat, sleeplessness, and scant eating. Raw rehmannia 1.5 don; white peony 0.8 don; cnidium, dry-fried white atractylodes, tangerine peel, honey-fried phellodendron, anemarrhena, fritillaria, ophiopogon, and lycium root bark, 0.5 don each; white poria, coltsfoot, aster, and polygala, 0.4 don each; schisandra and sour jujube seed, 0.3 don each; dry-fried coptis and roasted licorice, 0.2 don each. Cut the above, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger, decoct in water, stir in five spoonfuls of bamboo sap, and take warm. — Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The fire chapter's portrait of a particular patient — the long liver of wine and late passion whose lung has quietly scorched: throat ulcerated, voice gone, sleep gone. Eighteen flavors at watchmaker's doses, closing with a pour of bamboo sap: the tradition's gentlest rebuild of a burned instrument. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
