Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治氣不宣通, 周身走痛. 白丑(頭末) 二兩, 茴香(炒)ㆍ穿山甲(煻火煨胖) 各一兩半, 陳皮(去白)ㆍ玄胡索ㆍ甘草(灸) 各一兩, 木香五錢. 右細末, 每二錢, 薑湯或溫酒調下. 《局方》

Translation

Treats the qi not diffusing and passing, with pain wandering through the whole body. White morning glory seed (first powder) 2 nyang; fennel (stir-fried) and pangolin scale (roasted in hot ash until puffed) 1 nyang 5 don each; tangerine peel (white pith removed), corydalis and licorice (mix-fried) 1 nyang each; costus 5 don. Powder finely and take 2 don at a time stirred into ginger decoction or warm wine. — Hwaje Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Gi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Pangolin scale is the tradition's medicinal for opening what is blocked at a distance — the animal burrows, and its scale was held to burrow through the channels. With morning glory seed to purge and corydalis for the pain, the formula is for pain that moves and cannot be located. **Pangolin is CITES Appendix I and prohibited in trade.
