Clinical commentary 臨床

Sobanha-tang in a double dose with bamboo shavings added, and the indication is as blunt as the formula: 噦欲死, hiccup at the point of death. The chapter puts it with the yang-pattern treatments, where the stomach is hot rather than cold, which is why the shavings are there — they are the one cooling thing in it. Hiccup described as killing a patient is hiccup that has gone on until he cannot eat, drink or sleep, and 3.23 gives the chapter's prognosis for it: frequent close-spaced hiccups are treatable, one hiccup every half-hour is not. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
