Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治動氣誤發汗, 筋惕肉瞤. 防風ㆍ牡蠣粉ㆍ白朮各等分. 右爲末, 每二錢, 酒或米飮調下, 日二三. 《仲景》

Translation

Treats twitching of the sinews and flesh where a stirring qi has been wrongly sweated. Saposhnikovia, powdered oyster shell and atractylodes in equal parts. Powder; 2 don each time, taken stirred into wine or rice water, two or three times a day. — Junggyeong 仲景 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three drugs for an iatrogenic injury, and the mechanism is sound even in modern terms: the patient was sweated when he should not have been, and now his muscles twitch. Fasciculation after heavy fluid and salt loss is exactly what happens, and oyster shell — which is calcium carbonate — is the one drug in the formula that could plausibly address it. Saposhnikovia and atractylodes secure a surface that has been opened too far.
