Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治慢驚風. 天麻ㆍ防風ㆍ人參各五錢, 全蝎ㆍ白殭蠶ㆍ甘草各二錢半, 朱砂ㆍ雄黃各一錢七分半. 右爲末, 蜜丸芡實大, 人參湯或冬瓜仁湯化下. 《得效》

Translation

Treats chronic fright wind. Gastrodia, saposhnikovia and ginseng 5 don each; scorpion, silkworm and licorice 2 don 5 fun each; cinnabar and realgar 1 don 7 fun 5 ri each. Powder them, make honey pills the size of a gorgon-nut, and melt them down in a ginseng decoction or a winter melon seed decoction. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Soa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The wind drugs lead for once — gastrodia and saposhnikovia at 5 don, with ginseng beside them — and the minerals are at the bottom of the list. The pills are gorgon-nut sized, which is large, and they are dissolved rather than swallowed, so the vehicle does the work of getting it into a child who will not drink. **Contains cinnabar, mercuric sulfide, and realgar, arsenic sulfide. The patient is a child, and the text gives no dose by weight anywhere.** Mercury injures a developing nervous system irreversibly; inorganic arsenic is a poison and a carcinogen with no safe intake. Between them they are about a sixth of the pill mass. **It also contains scorpion, a neurotoxic animal venom that cannot be dosed accurately in dried material.** This must not be prepared.
