Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治行痺, 走注無定. 防風一錢半, 當歸ㆍ赤茯苓ㆍ獨活ㆍ杏仁ㆍ桂心ㆍ甘草各一錢, 麻黃五分, 黃芩ㆍ秦芃ㆍ葛根各三分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑五片, 棗二枚, 水煎服. 《宣明》

Translation

Treats moving impediment, with pain pouring from place to place without settling. Saposhnikovia, 1 don 5 fun; tangkuei, red poria, pubescent angelica, apricot kernel, cassia heart and licorice, 1 don each; ephedra, 5 fun; scutellaria, gentiana macrophylla and pueraria, 3 fun each. Cut up, make one packet, add five slices of ginger and two jujubes, and decoct in water. — Seonmyeongbang 宣明 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The wind-predominant member of the three-impediment set: where the damp type gets poria and mulberry bark and the cold type gets aconite, the moving type gets saposhnikovia at the head with ephedra, pueraria and gentiana macrophylla behind it. Wandering pain that never settles is the indication, and the formula answers it by opening the surface rather than by draining or warming. Apricot kernel is the odd inclusion and is there for the lung, on the reasoning that the lung governs the skin through which the wind came. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
