Translation
Treats phlegm depression. Pinellia 2 don; tangerine peel, chuanxiong and red poria 1.5 don each; bupleurum, saposhnikovia, cimicifuga and licorice 1 don each. Cut up, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger, decoct and take. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)
Clinical commentary 臨床
Ijin-tang with bupleurum, saposhnikovia and cimicifuga added, and the three additions are the point. All three lift and effuse, and none of them acts on phlegm at all. The name says what the formula thinks: depression is qi that should have risen and did not, so the treatment for depressed phlegm is to raise the qi and let the phlegm follow. Set this beside the previous formula, which reaches the same phlegm by coursing and downbearing — the section offers both directions without ranking them. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
