Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治石淋. 石燕子(燒赤, 醋柒三次, 硏水飛焙乾)ㆍ滑石ㆍ石韋ㆍ瞿麥穗各一兩. 右爲末, 糊丸梧子大, 空心以瞿麥ㆍ燈心煎湯下三五十丸, 日二. 《綱目》

Translation

Treats stone strangury. Stone swallow (fired red, quenched in vinegar three times, ground in water and baked dry), talc, pyrrosia and dianthus spike 1 nyang each. Powder them, make paste pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take thirty to fifty on an empty stomach with a decoction of dianthus and juncus, twice a day. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Sobyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

石燕子, the stone swallow — a fossil brachiopod, named for its shape. Fired and quenched in vinegar three times, which is how the pharmacy makes a mineral friable enough to grind.
