Clinical commentary 臨床

Fourteen medicinals, all at 7 pun, and ten slices of ginger — more ginger than any other formula in the chapter. The design is a composite: Ijin-tang for the phlegm, Oryeong-san minus cinnamon twig for the water, Sagunja-tang for the spleen, with inula flower and peucedanum on top to downbear. Nothing is emphasized because it is meant to cover all five categories at once, which the chapter recommends for cold-pattern rheum where the patient cannot be attacked. Note that the list of five rheums here differs from the eight of 6.4 — this is the older Zhongjing enumeration, and the chapter carries both without reconciling them. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
