Translation

It treats a needle or moxa injury to the channels and network vessels, with pus flowing without end and long failing to heal. Astragalus eight taels, Chinese angelica three taels, cassia bark, costusroot, frankincense and aquilaria one tael each. Powder them, make a paste by boiling four taels of mung bean flour with ginger juice, and form pills the size of a paulownia seed; take fifty to seventy with boiled water.

Clinical commentary 臨床

Astragalus at eight taels against three of angelica makes this a qi supplement first: the sore is read as one the body has not the strength to close. The four aromatics are warming and qi-moving, and 內托 names the strategy — press the toxin outward from within rather than attack it. Frankincense and aquilaria are resins, so the pill is a lipid-rich vehicle; the mung bean flour and ginger juice are the binder, not medicinals. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
