Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治姙娠熱瘧, 渴飮無度. 石膏二錢, 生地黃一錢半, 黃芩ㆍ麥門冬ㆍ人參ㆍ知母ㆍ乾葛各一錢, 甘草五分. 右剉作一貼, 入烏梅一箇, 同煎服. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats heat malaria in pregnancy with thirst and drinking without measure. Gypsum 2 don; fresh rehmannia 1 don 5 pun; scutellaria, ophiopogon, ginseng, anemarrhena and dried pueraria 1 don each; licorice 5 pun. Cut up, make one packet, add one mume, decoct together and take. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The counterpart to Seongbi-eumja above: the same disease read hot rather than cold, and the formula reversed throughout. Gypsum and anemarrhena in place of galangal and tsaoko. One mume added at the end is what makes it a malaria formula rather than a plain heat-clearing one — sour astringency to gather what the fever has scattered. **Malaria in pregnancy requires modern antimalarial treatment.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
