The Gangmok's rule accompanies the formula: where the Spleen-Stomach is weak and food hard to bear, cutting-and-felling drugs must not be used across the board — supplement with this, and eating naturally returns; should overeating on the mended appetite bring glomus, borrow Jisildoche-hwan briefly, and do not take it long.

Translation

Where the Spleen and Stomach are weak and food is hard to bear, cutting-and-felling drugs must not be used indiscriminately: supplement with Master Qian's Extraordinary Merit Powder, and one becomes able to eat naturally. Should craving then run to great excess and damage the spleen with glomus fullness, borrow the Jisil pill — that is, Jisildoche-hwan — expediently, and do not take much of it. — Treats Spleen-Stomach vacuity weakness with food refused, not yet able to disperse, and glomus oppression of chest and heart region. Ginseng, white atractylodes, white poria, tangerine peel, aucklandia, and licorice, 1 don each. Cut the above, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger and 2 jujubes, decoct in water and take. — Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Naesang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four Gentlemen with tangerine and aucklandia aboard — Master Qian's pediatric classic promoted here to the adult chapter as the proof that some stalled digestions are not full but empty. The attached rule is the pearl: tonify first, and the appetite does its own dispersing. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
