Clinical commentary 臨床

Free Wanderer Powder with ginseng substituted for the usual mint and roasted ginger, and the substitution tells you the pattern: this is relapse in someone who had no reserve, so the formula supplements and leaves the venting to a single modest dose of bupleurum. Ginseng and tangkuei at double everything else make it a qi-and-blood formula first. It is the mirror of 竹皮逍遙散 two entries earlier, which treats the same relapse in a patient with heat to clear; here there is only depletion. The pairing of the two is a good example of how the Bogam arranges formulas by what the patient has left rather than by the name of the disease. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
