Coptis in Pig's Stomach Pill
Hwangryeonjeodu-hwan
한글 황련저두환 · Pinyin Huang Lian Zhu Du Wan
Pill formula, bulk amounts. The powdered ingredients are sealed inside one boar's stomach (雄猪肚), the opening sewn with thread, steamed in a rice steamer until soft, pounded in a stone mortar with a little honey, and rolled into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; 100 pills per dose with thin rice water. Same name, different formula (同名異方): the rigid-center section records a distinct Hwangryeonjeodu-hwan from the Deukhyo, pairing coptis with roasted wheat — see the rigid-center version (hwangryeonjeodu-hwan-gangjung).
