治哮吼. <a href='/formulas/ijin-tang'>二陳湯</a><span class='sochu'>方見痰門</span>一貼, 加紫蘇葉ㆍ麻黃ㆍ杏仁ㆍ桑白皮ㆍ紫菀ㆍ貝母ㆍ桔梗各五分. 右薑三煎服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats wheezing and roaring in the throat. One packet of Two Matured Ingredients Decoction<span class='sochu'>the formula is given in the Phlegm chapter</span> with perilla leaf, ephedra, apricot kernel, mulberry root bark, aster, fritillaria and platycodon added, 5 fun each. Decoct with three slices of ginger. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Ijin-tang with the exterior-releasing drugs laid on top, and it answers the 哮證 section's own analysis exactly: 此寒包熱也 — this is cold wrapping heat — so the phlegm is transformed from within while the surface is opened with perilla leaf and ephedra. The Dansim passage there insists that cooling drugs must not be used alone and that a dispersing element must always be carried, which is what this formula is. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed. Ephedra is a sympathomimetic and is not to be taken by anyone with heart disease, hypertension or thyrotoxicosis, nor with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
