驅邪湯

The Bogam carries two different formulas under the name 驅邪湯: this one, from the Haehak chapter, six drugs for the various malarias, while the Buin chapter's Dansim formula of the same name is a warming aromatic formula for cold contracted in pregnancy. The Sokbang's alternative name 柴胡二朮湯 is recorded here and is not registered separately.

Clinical commentary 臨床

The alternative name gives the composition away: bupleurum and the two atractylodes. Six drugs, each at its own odd weight, and the proportions are the argument — bupleurum at two don, white atractylodes at one and a half, pueraria at one and three fun — a dispersing drug and a supplementing drug held in near balance, with black atractylodes and tangerine peel behind them to dry the middle. That balance is the chapter's own prescription for how to sweat a malaria. Dansim's rule a few sections above runs 必先與參朮等補劑爲君加柴葛等發散藥漸而收汗 — make the supplementing medicinals such as ginseng and atractylodes the sovereign first, then add dispersing medicinals such as bupleurum and pueraria, and gather the sweat by degrees. This formula is that sentence written as a prescription, which is why it is offered for 諸瘧 rather than for any one named type. Taken on an empty stomach, so that nothing blunts it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
