Clinical commentary 臨床

The four gentlemen with the whole descending apparatus of this chapter hung on them: perilla seed and mulberry root bark to bring the lung qi down, magnolia bark and cardamom across the middle, and aquilaria and costus ground separately and stirred in at the end so that their aromatics survive the decoction. The indication 氣喘 is the chapter's name for breathlessness without much phlegm and without heat, and the formula answers it by supplementing rather than dispersing — which is the right instinct for exertional breathlessness in a wasted patient. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
