Clinical commentary 臨床

Ijin-tang with platycodon and bitter orange lifting and dropping at the throat, scutellaria and gardenia clearing the heat, and perilla seed and cardamom moving qi. Compare with Augmented Four Seven Decoction, which treats the same plum-pit qi: that formula is warm and aromatic and works on the middle burner, this one is cool and works at the throat itself. Which to reach for depends on whether the lump comes with heat signs, and the chapter offers both without ranking them, which is characteristic — it supplies the differentiation and leaves the choice to the practitioner. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
