Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治肝藏實熱脇痛. 當歸ㆍ草龍膽ㆍ山梔子ㆍ黃連ㆍ黃柏ㆍ黃芩各一兩, 大黃ㆍ蘆薈ㆍ靑黛各五錢, 木香二錢半, 麝香半錢. 右爲末, 蜜丸小豆大, 薑湯下二三十丸. 《綱目》

Translation

Treats replete heat of the liver with pain of the ribside. Angelica, gentian, gardenia, coptis, phellodendron and scutellaria 1 nyang each; rhubarb, aloe and indigo 5 don each; costus 2 don 5 pun; musk half a don. Powder them, make honey pills the size of an adzuki bean, and take twenty or thirty with ginger decoction. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Gan)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The coldest formula in the chapter — the three yellows, gentian, gardenia, aloe, indigo and rhubarb, eight cold medicinals with angelica to keep the blood from freezing under them and costus and musk to keep the whole from sitting. Liu Wansu's, and the tradition's pill for a liver fire that has become constipation, red eyes, ringing ears and pain under the ribs at once. **Contains musk, CITES Appendix I and prohibited in trade.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
