Treats fever with profuse sweating, no strength and a pulse vacuous, fine and slow — this is summerheat injuring the original qi. Cut up, add three slices of ginger and decoct in water. Also called Cheongseo-ikwon-tang. — Piryongbang 必用 · Myeongui 名醫 (Donguibogam · Seo)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The pulse is the whole diagnosis: vacuous, fine and slow, in a patient sweating heavily in hot weather. Fast and full would mean heat to be cleared; slow and thin means the heat has already emptied him, and the formula answers accordingly — ginseng, astragalus, atractylodes and poria make up the bulk, with only small amounts of coptis, phellodendron and anemarrhena to take the edge off the heat, and elsholtzia as the one summerheat-specific drug. That proportion, supplementing drugs at a full don and cooling drugs at three to five fun, is the whole argument of this chapter's 夏暑宜補氣 section made material. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
