Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治足少陽經爲四氣流注, 發熱腫痛, 腰脚引痛. 柴胡一錢半, 乾葛ㆍ半夏ㆍ赤茯苓ㆍ白朮ㆍ細辛ㆍ麥門冬ㆍ桂心ㆍ防風ㆍ白薑ㆍ黃芩ㆍ小草ㆍ甘草各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 煎法同上. 《三因》

Translation

Treats the foot lesser-Yang channel taking the four Qi, with fever, swelling, and pain, and lumbar pain drawing into the leg. Bupleurum 1 don 5 fun; kudzu root, pinellia, red poria, white atractylodes, asarum, ophiopogon, cinnamon heart, saposhnikovia, dried ginger, scutellaria, small polygala, and licorice, 5 fun each. Cut the above, make one packet, decoct as above. — Samin 三因 (Donguibogam · Jok)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Bupleurum at one and a half don leads, which is what marks this as the lesser-Yang formula — that channel runs down the side of the body and the leg, and bupleurum is its herb.
