Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治濕嗽, 痰多, 身體重着, 脉濡細. 白朮三錢, 半夏ㆍ橘紅ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ五味子各一錢半, 甘草五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑五, 水煎服. 《濟生》

Translation

Treats damp cough with abundant phlegm, a heavy encumbered body and a soggy fine pulse. White atractylodes, 3 don; pinellia, red tangerine peel, white poria and schisandra, 1 don 5 fun each; licorice, 5 fun. Cut up, make one packet, add five slices of ginger, and decoct in water. — Jesaeng 濟生 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Ijin-tang with a trebled dose of white atractylodes on top of it, and schisandra to stop the cough. The whole weight of the formula is on drying damp rather than on the chest: 身體重着, a heavy encumbered body, is a damp sign and not a lung sign, and the chapter's 濕嗽 is defined by it. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
